Play Bridge!

If you have never attended a national tournament, it's not too late to do it this fall!  Trundle on over to San Francisco, where our 2007 Fall Nationals are being held.  A great place for competing against the best players in the world - and fine dining, too.

Should you not be able to make it to the west coast - then consider traveling instead to Maplewood!  Unit 103 is hosting a fine Holiday Sectional the second week in December.  Here's the schedule and venue for those who would prefer bridge over the mall!

Paul Soloway 1941 - 2007

Paul Soloway never lived in Minnesota.  Nevertheless, his accomplishments dazzled all of us here - and around the world.

This great of the bridge world will be missed.

Fall Back - Spring Ahead

Floweryellow Today, we had the pleasure of changing every watch, clock, computer, VCR, programmed coffee maker and the like, to conform with the cessation of daylight savings time.  Winter cannot be far away!

And though some may think it "jumping the gun" to contemplate spring . . . .  Trust me; it is closer than you may realize!

For those who do like to plan ahead, please see below the schedule for our Minnesota Regional at the end of May 2008.  This regional will be the first in a long time that is sponsored by all of Minnesota; both Units 103 and 178 are in charge of this tournament.

Patti Stuhlman is the chairperson of the regional.  Patti is a master at planning, and she has a cast of people working diligently to bring you the best tournament Minnesota has ever seen!

So - take a gander at all the excellent events:  KO teams, pairs, Swiss, I/N games and more - and then mark your schedules!

Springing ahead and May are closer than you think!

Grade A Bridge

Juniorbridge1jpg Bridge in the Twin Cities is receiving a big boost!
Unit 178 held a kickoff meeting at the Twin City Bridge Center to begin the organization of Junior Bridge expansion.  Eighteen volunteer teachers met and discussed details and teaching methodology with Evan Sachs and Colin Kehe.  Evan and Colin have been actively involved in teaching bridge at St. Anthony High School for the last three years.Juniorbridge2
Contacts for Junior Bridge activities have already been made in sixteen metro area high schools and middle schools.  Volunteers are heading out in teams of two to introduce the world's finest mind game to those in the 12 to 18 year old generation.  These teachers plan to spend 1 to 2 hours a week in area schools.Juniorbridge3
We need more volunteers, though!
If you are ready, willing and able, please contact Unit 178 president Marv Riedesel at 651.485.0027 or marvmary2002@yahoo.com.
Thanks to all those who are helping to promote the game we love to the next generation.  And - welcome aboard, juniors!  You are in for a treat.
