As many of you know, Unit 178 has purchased Bridgemate scoring machines and plans to purchase a shuffling machine, also. Fundraising has already been going well; a combination Awards and Fundraising Party is scheduled at the Twin City Bridge Center on May 8th.
Marv Riedesel, president of Unit 178, has many updates and information below about all of the above. Our thanks to Marv and to everyone who has contributed and helped to this very worthy cause!
To the Bridge Players in Unit 178:
We are two weeks away from our Awards Banquet and the culmination of our fund raising efforts. Let me give you a brief update.
By now most of you have likely experienced using the Bridgemate II scoring machines. We are in the process of training all of the directors so that they are comfortable using the machines. The machines are not difficult to use if everything goes right and no one makes any mistakes entering information, but when there are problems it takes some knowledge of the system to get it up and running again. Within the next couple of weeks all of the directors should have gone through the training and the machines will be in use at all games in Unit 178.
Initially we were planning to purchase 50 Bridgemate Pro’s at a cost of $104 per machine but after using the trial machines (Bridgemate II costing $132 per machine) which have more features and a larger display and after having one of our members offer to pay half of the difference in the cost of the two machines, we have decided to buy the Bridgemate II – the machine that we are currently using. This means that our overall obligation for the scoring machines and shuffling machine will be approximately $14,000.
Through the generosity of you, the players in Unit 178, we have already received contributions nearing $11,000 in the first 3 weeks of our effort. I am confident that we will achieve our goal in the next two weeks. I am going to recommend to the board at our meeting on May 1 that we purchase the shuffling machine so that we can have it in play as soon as possible.
I hope that all of you enjoy having the immediate scoring and will equally enjoy having pre dealt hands and hand records at all of your games in the Unit. I also hope that your schedule allows you to be our guest for a meal on May 8th at the
as we conclude this very successful effort to enhance your bridge experience in the Unit. Twin City Bridge Center
