ACBL Goals

As many of you know, I will soon be leaving for our wonderful Spring NABC in Reno.  Before I am able to compete against players from all around the world, however, I will be meeting with fellow board members. 

To that end, I would like to get your input about what goals and plans should be for the ACBL.  What should our primary goals be for 2010?  Do keep in mind; these goals may not necessarily be completed in 2010.

The goals should not be simple fixes that can be addressed in motions.  Rather, they should be more significant challenges.  One example might be:  determining the feasibility of creating a ranking system based upon current performance, rather than on accumulated masterpoints.

Please offer your suggestions in the comments below.  Your thoughts and concerns and ideas are important to me!  I look forward to hearing from you.

ACBL Coin of the Realm

Masterpoints!  We collect them at club games and sectionals, regionals and NABC's.  We get them for special games and knock-out team events.  We earn lots when we perform especially well - and earn a little when we do a little better than normal.

After we're done collecting our masterpoints, we like to see how everyone stacks up against one another.  Who has earned the most lifetime masterpoints in District 14?  Which players earned more in 2009 than any others in 2009?  Find out these answers and more below the line.

ACBL Senior Stratified Pairs

Here is a terrific opportunity to compete with seniors throughout the ACBL.  You have no need to hop on a plane or drive hundreds of miles!

On Monday, February 22, a Senior Stratified Pair event isscheduled.  Players must be 55 to be eligible (no age averaging allowed!)

The same hands will be played throughout the ACBL, and you will be competing throughout the league.  Some pair will end up being national winners; why not two members of District 14!?

Check with your local clubs to see where this great event is scheduled in your area. 

Practice Your Bidding with The Law

Larry Cohen, known as "The Law" for his in depth work on the Law of Total Tricks, recently "retired" from bridge.  Really, however, Larry is only planning on retiring from the grueling schedule and competition of a top-level bridge pro.  He still is very busy with both instruction and writing on our game.
