District 14 in the Semis

Best of luck to our District 14 Flight B team!  They are in the semis of the GNT today.

That practice must have paid off :)

District 14 GNT

Last Saturday, as some of the Twin Cities received a "Wizard of Oz" type dose of tornado weather, our Flight B GNT, Andy Caranicas, Paul Gutterman, Richard Lawson and Eric Hendrickson team braved the elements to practice.  They came to our house where Roger and I, along with Judy and Phil Schwarz, plus appearances by Peg Kaplan and Joe Rice played against them for several hours.

The more experienced players did gain the larger portion of IMPS.  Still - lots of issues worked out for our Flight B team.  We wish them and all our other District 14 GNT players the best as they start competition today in New Orleans!

Bettendorf Regional - Worth 10,000 Words

Those who attended the 2010 Bettendorf Regional were treated to superb Iowa hospitality.  In addition, the drive across Iowa provided spectacular vistas like this one.

 
While giving one more hand his complete concentration, Jim Nash of Omaha sailed over the 20,000 masterpoint mark in Bettendorf.

Meanwhile, District 14 players began giving their goodbyes to one of the most popular ACBL directors, Ron Johnston, as Ron directs one of his last tournaments prior to retirement.

Meanwhile, Unit Treasurer Bill Kent contemplates strangling partner yet again - but manages to calm down for the next deal.

Bettendorf Regional

Webmaster Larry Delfs has posted several news items from last week's District 14 regional in Bettendorf, Iowa:

Congratulations to Jim Nash who went over 20,000 points at the Bettendrof Regional last weekend. Peg Kaplan and Bill Kent were the leading point winners with 94.97 points each. For more on the AMAZING performace by the 4 University of Northern Iowa professors with less than 300 points each

The Bettendrof lead director Ron Johnston is retiring soon. Congratulations again Ron!

Loads of Statistics

This most recent "QUIP" report has loads of statistics about membership in the ACBL.  Data from all districts is included in the report below.  Feel free, however, to peruse this information and see how our District 14 is doing!

Potential ACBL Redistricting

"The ACBL President, in those years ending in the numeral zero and in the numeral five, shall establish a Special Committee to review the geographical districting of the ACBL and to report to the ACBL Board of Directors their findings and recommendations.”

 

The general consensus from a brief Board discussion in Reno is that the President, Rich DeMartino, would appoint a Special Committee only if there is some reasonable chance that the Board would consider supporting any recommendation to redistrict. Rich has scheduled some time at the Board meeting in New Orleans to discuss this issue further. To assist in planning for that session, I am asking each of you to help me document any specific problems you are aware of with the current districting. I will get any feedback from District 14 to Rich in advance of our meetings.

Need professional printing?  Here's a way to save more when you do.

The ACBL has a contract for copying at Office Max.  The cost is roughly half of going elsewhere. 

Just go to the ACBL website and print a coupon that can be used and re-used.  They charge $.032 per single page and $.064 for double sided copying with the coupon.  The printed coupon is scanned at the store and very easy to use.
