Paul Gutterman and Richard Lawson, two of the players on the winning District 14 GNT Flight B team, have kindly submitted articles about their success in New Orleans.
Our thanks to Paul and Richard - and once again, congratulations to all the players, too!
Their victory (not the first national title for 3 of the 4) is another testament to the solid bridge played in MN. How would you like to face them in the finals of a bracket 1 KO at the Gopher? You better bring your 'A' game along!

I might add that part of the reason for success by these players is their attitude. Irrespective of your level of experience and skill, the mind set that you take with you to the table helps or hinders immensely.
Paul, Richard, Eric and Andy have explained how they focused on the hand they were playing, immediately forgave partner and themselves any errors, thought positively and remembered that they were a team, and not combatants among one another.
It does all make a huge difference!

Is this the Paul Gutterman who went to New Trier HS in the mid 70s. I saw your photo in the Bridge Bulletin (Sept.2010). Congrats! I am a recent ACBL member playing in Chicago and was very impressed by your accomplishment. Feel free to e-mail me to catch up. Mark Brandfonbrener (NTWHS 76)
