The Board of Directors meeting at our Fall NABC was productive. Brief highlights are below. Feel free to visit www.ACBL.org for more details!
The upcoming NABCs were approved:
-
- Spring 2015, New Orleans Marriott
- Summer 2015, Chicago Hilton
- Summer 2016, Marriot Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
- New slow play regulations set the expectation for Directors and give them power to enforce slow play penalties. This applies to pair games, KO events, and NABCs. Slow play, especially habitual slow play, is a violation of law and subject to penalty.
- Craig Robinson from District 4 (Central New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey) was elected 2011 ACBL President. He plans to visit 100 local bridge clubs in 100 days. (This is a new approach—Presidents usually visit Regional Tournaments.) Information will be sent to clubs on how to request a visit.
- Tournament Director session fees will increase 4%, effective April 1, 2011.
- Regionals at Sea will now be monitored and controlled by the ACBL.
- ACBL Score replacement is due to be completed in the next 12-18 months.
- The 2011 Budget was approved.
- Estimated income: $15,800,000
- Estimated expenses: $15,629,000
- Juniors—Bridge teachers teaching school bridge courses (minimum of 8 students for at least 16 hours) are eligible for a total of $500.00 from the ACBL and all other sources.
- A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Succession Planning Framework, to set the process for replacing a CEO, was approved. Jay Baum, our current CEO, will be retiring in the summer of 2012. It is not too soon to begin thinking of people you know that might be potential candidates to fill tis very important position.
