Des Moines Recap - And .....

The folks in Iowa delivered a fine regional in Des Moines last week!  A pleasant playing site, excellent schedule, yummy hospitality, door prizes and more all contributed.

At the top of the heap for masterpoint winners were two well known District 14 players:  Pierre Flatowicz and Jim Nash, both of Omaha.  A most impressive almost 107 masterpoints for Pierre and Jim - though they could not have done it without the partnership that was only a point behind:  Val Laing and Dave Stark.

Thanks to all who contributed to such a super holiday tournament! 

Additional good news is that we have more to come in District 14!  The Nebraska Regional, now one of the largest and most fun tournaments on the annual schedule, begins August 1.  And Sioux City, Iowa will host a fall fest that begins on September 27.

Here are a few of the folks who competed in Des Moines.  Do plan on attending our upcoming regionals; you just might see a photo of yourself at the table!

 

 

Get Your Reservations!

District 14 has some great regionals still to come in 2011.  But, with some challenging weather conditions in the midwest, we have learned that hotel rooms are going quickly.

Be sure to make your room reservations ASAP.  The Nebraska Regional flyer and the Sioux City flyer each have all the details.

Even bridge players have to sleep sometime!

District 14 Minutes and Policies

At the most recent Gopher Regional in the Twin Cities during late May, our board met to review business and vote on policies.

Emerald

  

 
Two District 14 players living in the Twin Cities recently achieved one of the highest standings in the ACBL:  that of Emerald Life Master.  A player needs to earn 7500 masterpoints to be an Emerald Life Master - and 99.35% of the league's players are below this level of achievement.

Now, however, Cindy Balderson and Terry Beckman are in that select group.  Kudos to both Cindy and Terry for their fine bridge careers - with more to come!

Diamond Life Master!

 
In addition to new Life Masters, the Des Moines Regional also saw another player reaching a milestone.  Nancy Wittwer of Falls City, Nebraska, went over 5,000 masterpoints and became a Diamond Life Master.  Less than 1.5% of the ACBL currently has more than 5,000 masterpoints. 

Nancy had a great week in Des Moines, culminating in reaching the finals of the third KO - and capturing enough masterpoints to cross the Diamond threshold.  Congratulations, Nancy!

New Life Masters!

We are happy to announce that two players, both from Omaha, became Life Masters.  The first was Carolyn Fleming.  Here is Carolyn, intent upon her defense.  Partner Lorna Rollag provided major assistance!

 
Our other new Life Master is Audrey Hulsey.  She secured her LM title by winning a knockout with her sister, Evelyn Estenson of Northfield, MN, and Larry and Diane Henson of Minnetonka, MN.  Audrey's team played a team with almost 10 times as many masterpoints in their final match!  Nevertheless, Audrey's team was victorious.  A great lesson that you can beat a more experienced team if you play your best and have a bit of good fortune, too.

 
Congratulations to our two new Life Masters - and - have a wonderful time as you climb to even greater heights!

Des Moines Regional 2011

Today is the middle of the Des Moines Regional.  If you have not yet been competing - it's not too late!  A great schedule is available through the 4th of July.  Beat the heat and win masterpoints at the table!
