We begin with the news story of conservative Armstrong Williams hawking GWB's "No Child Left Behind" for major bucks - and not disclosing. Bad. Not surprisingly, the Left has a chorus of criticism. This time, I don't blame them. Even though this sort of thing has happened on the Left also, it doesn't condone conservatives doing it.
But it's one thing to be critical - and another to be disgusting. I'm not sure if I would call this post at Steve Gilliard's News Blog racist, like Jonah Goldberg does.
I do, however, know that language which would make a Klu Klux Klan grand wizard proud should be the purview of no one but racists.
Does it matter that Steve Gilliard himself is black? Jonah's second post on this is surely accurate.
We can play the usual games about whether or not blacks can be racists when talking about other blacks. Or we can declare in advance that we find such post-modern thumbsucking racial seminars very boring and ignore the whole thing. The guy's post still strikes me as racist, offensive and idiotic and the fact that he's black may make it more interesting for people who play those games, but not for me. His comments are gross and his skin color doesn't make them hip.
