The Loss of Rationality

Condi_1 Too busy to park myself in front of the tube all day and watch various liberal Democrats insult Condoleeza Rice as they drone on from written scripts, I've only caught snippets.  Still, these few minutes of tape are enough for me.  More than once, the phrase "forgive them, for they know not what they do" ran through my mind.

What on earth do these senators think they are accomplishing?

Tedkennedy A potential cabinet member, smart as a whip, with an impressive resume to boot, meets with the questioners.  They wish to ask her tough questions?  Fine.  But instead of difficult, but fair questions, this dignified woman, this black woman who grew up in Birmingham and knew the sting of Jim Crow is subjected to being called deceptive and a liar.  And by a former Klu Klux Klan member, no less!

ByrdDo I think that Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd and Mark Dayton would insult a white man as they have Condoleeza Rice?  Actually, yes I do.  And, my standard MO is, no special favors for anyone, irrespective of their sex or race.

Still, it makes me cringe to see this woman of class and brains to be subjected to these unwarranted insults.  And I can only wonder:  if I, a middle-aged white woman feels creepy and finds her skin crawly listening to these attacks - what must my fellow black citizens feel?  What do they think, when they see a black woman, raised in the deep South, with all the credentials and smarts of any man, belittled and pontificated about, as Ms. Rice has been?

Will these displays really endear these Senators to other Democrats?  To their "base"?  To blacks across the nation?

The Power Line guys seem to believe that the Republicans ought to "fight back":

It's hard to tell much about the Republican response from the news stories I've seen, but it appears to have been tepid. Why is it, exactly, that Republican Senators refrain from commenting on the irony of an old KKK stalwart hurling false charges at the first black woman ever nominated as Secretary of State? The Democrats have destroyed every notion of comity and protocol, not to mention truthfulness and common sense. So why do the Republicans adhere doggedly to a code of comity that the Democrats abandoned long ago? If I were in the Senate, I would not do so.

But I do not agree.  We are seeing the C-span, governmental version of mud wrestling, courtesy of the lefty wing of the Democrat party.  Let them parade their talents for all to see.  No need for the Republicans to tell everyone that the pigs are filthy, covered with mud and trying to splatter it everywhere.  Anyone wishing to pay attention can see it - and those who can't are probably the sort who enjoy mud-wrestling.

I myself am not.  I hope that these Democrats reap the fruits of what they now are sowing:  nasty, bitter, and dishonest fruit.  And I further hope that those who are liberal - real liberals - will turn out these imposters with new politicians who really do embrace the principles for which proud Democrats did once stand.

At one time politicians had principles and your wish might have come true. Anymore I'm not sure politicians of either party have real principles.

And we are taught that philosophy isn't important....
