Bill's Comments
My friend Bill is one wise fellow. Is he correct about the upcoming election and what it portends?
Nevertheless, I agree with Bill that even if we have to suffer under this scenario, in the long run, we may right the course. I only hope that the "long run" is not that terrifically long! A lot of damage may be incurred along the way...
Currently we are justifiably angry with the Republicans. They have done far worse than Bush I and his "read my lips". They have completely betrayed all the principles the Republicans supposedly stand for. As a consequence we will throw out all the Republicans that we can. In fact, I will do so as well, voting against Senators DeWine and Voinivich at any opportunity.I hope Bill is wrong; I fear he is right.
The only downside is that they will be replaced by Democrats who are unabashedly tax and spend, government power types. However, when none of their policies correct what is wrong with the country and are perceived as making things worse, they in turn will be thrown out. That is the point at which things could become better. Just like a boil which has to come to head to be lanced and healed, so the festering of 60's activism must finally come to a head and be removed from the political stage.
The process of doing this will be very painful. We will see joblessness increase greatly, major gains by Jihad, erosion of savings' value, cost of living sky-rocket, mostly over fuel costs, and retirements being postponed for lack of means to support them. We will see morality and principle come under severe attack under the guise of political correctness. In the name of freedom from being offended, our freedom of speech will be curtailed. To see what is coming, simply look at Canada or Great Britain.
Nevertheless, I agree with Bill that even if we have to suffer under this scenario, in the long run, we may right the course. I only hope that the "long run" is not that terrifically long! A lot of damage may be incurred along the way...
Someone needs to give Bill a history lessons because what he states is more fiction than fact. I have debunked your notion of tax and spend Democrats at least 3 times, and never seen a competent response. In brief as I have stated before, when Bill Clinton raised taxes on the top 1% instead of all the doom and gloom you and Bill cite, the exact opposite came true. Reduced deficit, budget surplus, and a smooth running economy. Can anyone logically dispute the economy was better under Clinton that Bush? Honestly without facts, you cannot.
Now this notion the Republicans have been pushing of lowering taxes is irresponsible, and childish. The debate should not be just lower taxes, to lower taxes. The debate should be what is the correct tax rate. The Republicans have consistently called for lowering taxes, and yet at the same time have run record deficits and raised our nations debt to astronomical numbers. If revenue is not increased, then how does anyone expect to pay down the debt? If in one's own personal life bills start to overtake income, you find a new job, or pick up some other income from somewhere, you don't start working less hours. This makes no sense.
Let me be clear I am not in favor of paying more taxes. All I am saying is that we need to find the proper tax rate to get things paid for and to pay down the debt in a responsible manner. Is that some sort of far fetched ideal? You are the fiscal conservative, how much sense does it make to be in favor of wars, load up on pork barrel spending, and lower taxes all at the same time?
This debate is absurd when it falls down to the level of who is going to lower taxes, and who is going to raise taxes. The proper debate needs to be what is the optimum tax rate to pay for the things we need as a country, pay down the debt, and to not over tax the people. When adult minds come together on this notion, then we will be on the right path. This notion that you and the Republicans push on tax and spend Democrats is hilarious because as most Republican arguments there is never any facts to back up what they state, and when closely examined make little sense.
Need more an example of this Republican manner of debating an issue without the use of facts, just what Right wing wingnut Kevin James make a pathetic argument.

This is classic and sums up the new Republican way of debating any issue, all rhetoric no facts.

"We will see joblessness increase greatly, major gains by Jihad, erosion of savings' value, cost of living sky-rocket, mostly over fuel costs, and retirements being postponed for lack of means to support them".
