Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights.  The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family.  Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility.  When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

Is there any level of dishonesty that you will not go to try and make a point? Is this how Republicans debate an issue, just flat out lie.

Here are the facts.

"Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics."

That's how Blunt's press release begins: by misstating the facts.

"To threaten and intimidate his critics," says Blunt.

But here's what actually happened:

Certain Obama supporters are threatening to bring libel charges against those who are guilty of lying and issuing slanderous statements about Barack. Call me crazy but it's my understanding that the lies and slander were in TV ads. Is not slander and libel crimes anymore? Quite a difference, yes?

Now if you took the time to read up on the issue instead of blindly following some right wing talking point you might of seen that. Been then again, you are not trying to inform anyone, you are attempting to mislead people.

Yet it doesn't stop here. To make matters worse, St. Louis Circuit Jennifer Joyce has been caught in a dust-up over her presence on a “Truth Squad” for Barack Obama. To answer these false charges Joyce made the following statement:

"As a citizen, I believe that elections should be about issues. I also have enormous respect for our First Amendment and freedom of speech. My sole purpose in participating in this initiative is about getting truthful information to the voters. This has never been or never will be about prosecuting people. Clearly there are those who are attempting to twist the purpose of this initiative for their own benefit. This attack is a great example of how the truth is distorted in campaigns and what we’re trying to stand up against."

This is not even about the facts or the issues. This is more about your bias against let's just say the Democrat (even though I suspect race has a factor in it for you). You can claim what ever high ground you want, you can name all your so-called African American friends all you want, but seriously this seems somewhat personal for you, and I for one I am not buying it.

As for Mr. Obama For Omerica

Here is a good cartoon for you. This is one coming from the same Republicans and conservatives that went after McCain in 2000. These are the same people that supported Bush in 2000. Were you one of them, I know Peg was.

Wow, stay classy Republicans.

This coming from a supporter of the One who told his Daily Kossacks that they had to find the Pregnancy Suit and expose Palin? You have the nerve to talk about classy?
