Most of America has now heard about the fiasco at the Democratic Convention. Their platform was altered from previous years. For the first time in recent history, no mention of "God" nor of "Jerusalem" was to be found. When the press learned of this (yes, even the leftist press) and became more and more negative, President Obama instructed that it be put it back.
Well, you might think that in America, it wouldn't be too tough to get the word "God" inserted, when, after all, the word appears in our Declaration of Independence, and on our currency. And it would seem odd to alter a platform to remove the word "Jerusalem," when one of our closest allies has that as their capital.
But, you would be wrong. Neil Boortz has the details.
According to the rules of the convention, --- the RULES, mind you --- under which the convention is to be run, a 2/3 majority of ayes over nays would be required to adopt this amendment. Now you have to feel a bit sorry for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa here. Poor guy. He was actually giving the impression (or it was a pretty good act) that the rules meant something and that it was really going to take a 2/3 majority to approve the amendment. When the vote was taken the first time it was clear that the 2/3 majority did not exist. So … he asked for the vote again. The second time the nays seemed to be even more powerful. Uh oh. What is the chair going to do here? Durned if it doesn’t sound like the delegates to this convention are not in favor of putting God and Jerusalem as Israel’s capital back in the Democrat platform. Here...you can watch the clip and determine for yourself which side actually “won,” not that it really mattered all that much. Obama was running this show … and Obama had preordained the outcome. The delegates were there for show … Obama is the REAL law of this convention … so it was time for Villaraigosa’s handler to step in.
After Villaraigossa got his marching orders from that lady, a convention manager I’m guessing, he remembered his role as chairman. He held one more voice vote. There was clearly NOT a two-thirds aye vote this time. You could easily say that the nays actually won. But that is NOT the result Obama wanted … and Obama rules. So Villaraigossa, realizing he was not actually a chairman, but more of a performer reading a script, read the words from the teleprompter in front of him … words that had been placed on that teleprompter by the Obama operations staff. “In the opinion of the chair two-thirds have voted in the affirmative, the motion is adopted, and the platform has been amended as shown on the screen.”
If you watch the clip, available for millions around the globe to watch, you can see for yourself that Villaraigosa declared that something had passed by a 2/3 vote when that clearly had not happened. And while most of the discussion I have seen is about the Democrats and their views about both God and Israel, I cannot help but continue to think this.
Those in charge of the Democrat party seem to have zero concern about being true to their own rules, and instead plowing ahead, controverting those rules. Doing what they think is "best and right" - rules be damned - seems the law of the day. And, if they seem to have no compunction about tossing out their own rules on national television, then what will these people do behind closed doors?
Some may think because I have conservative/libertarian tendencies about government, that it means I am anti-government. I am not at all. Being for smaller, leaner government is just that; it is not no government.
One of the most critical features of a good and just government is having a rule of law, and politicians that honor and uphold that rule of law. So, I ask you. Do you really want leaders who will simply state that "x" happened, and thus they are going to take the law into their own hands - when you have seen that "x" simply did not happen? If these people will ignore a vote with their own rules about their own platform, what else will they ignore when you and I cannot see them?
I find this extremely dangerous. Such action is demonstrating that the rule of law isn't important to these people - only their ends. And when the rule of law disappears - we are in deep trouble.
And then - there's this.
Obama’s hand-picked DNC chair tried telling everyone that there was “no discord” in one of the worst spin attempts ever caught on videotape — one that had CNN’s Anderson Cooper and his panel marveling that Debbie Wasserman Schultz lives in “an alternate universe” and openly laughing at her:
