As those who regularly stop by what if? know, I am saddened by how few in the field of journalism actually seem to be practicing their craft well these days.
Nevertheless, I always like to give those who rise to the occasion their due. Here is a column by Harry Stein who calls out those who are doing what fine journalists used to do: seeking out truth and reporting it - irrespective of whose ox is gored.
It’s likely that most, if not all, of these people are politically liberal. But that’s precisely the point: based on their reporting, we don’t know, which is as it should be. So what should such an award be called? How about the Russert?
A Russert - one of my journalistic heroes - would be quite apt, Mr. Stein.
