With the president's disastrous performance on Wednesday night, more and more of the liberal press and liberal supporter's belief system is being displayed. The anguish of the left, and their clear support of one candidate over the other - even to the point of gaming the system - becomes obvious.
Do debates really matter? The experts say that, barring total disaster, the answer is actually no.
Does anyone truly - for a nanosecond - believe that Collins would have written this statement had Obama convincingly won the debate?
And the purpose of a moderator? Unbelievable!
Lehrer has to go. He's a pussycat, an embarrassment. We need a no-nonsense cut-the-you-know-what moderator, someone like Chris Matthews, or Scott Pelley or Martin Bashir. None of them would have let Romney get away with the codswallop Lehrer let him trot out yesterday evening. They also would have lit a fire under the President, who seemed, at times, to have nodded off.
And where was the moderator while Romney talked a mile a minute about nothing?
Jim Lehrer was completely ineffectual last night. Except when he cut off the President's rebuttals to Romney's lies. Was Romney's jab about Big Bird's possible demise a warning to NPR: you're next?
It appears that these people actually believe that the moderators role is to assist the President. Forget the purpose of the debates so that the American people can hear the candidates, their opinions, how they handle challenges, etc. Forget that the true purpose of the moderator is to ask good questions, do his best to make sure that responses occur with equitable time restraints - and - that's about it. No. They want someone to save the President, to "light a fire under the President" and to restrain Romney from doing well.
Frightening.
