It's not just the minimum wage that rises. It's the cost of paying that wage. It's not that one business increases expenses with that rise. All businesses do. It's not the minimum wage that rises. It's all wages. Why? If I'm getting $7 an hour, and the minimum wage goes from $5 to $6, then I'm certainly worth another $1 an hour, too. Employees don't see the law as requiring the increase; they see a lower-tiered employee getting a raise. Increasing the minimum wage does not raise all boats. It just raises the water level.
