My wife, Mary, and I started playing duplicate bridge in 2002 at a couple of senior centers in the south metro area while we were on sabbatical. After a few months, we became aware of the Twin City Bridge Center. We started playing in the 99er game directed by Dennis Higdem on Friday nights, going to his mini lesson prior to the game and attending chat bridge on Saturday mornings. We attribute our resulting addiction to the game largely to Teri Blu for being so welcoming at our first visit to the Bridge Center, and to Dennis for his outstanding teaching abilities and unmatched wit.
We really enjoy the mental challenge of the game and the fact that we can jointly participate in an activity that we both enjoy. We have met many very nice people and have formed some great friendships. We sincerely appreciate the willingness of better players to help us improve our game.
This is my second term on the board of Unit 178. I appreciate the opportunity to have some input in the direction of the bridge community in Minnesota
and to continue to improve this game for all of us from the Rookies to the Grand Life Masters. I would like to help create more learning opportunities for beginning and intermediate players including encouraging more experienced players to mentor those of us who are trying to improve.
In my non-bridge life, I spent 37 years teaching mathematics, including the last 31 years at Inver Hills Community College, retiring in 2003. While not playing bridge, most of my spare time is spent entertaining our 10 grandkids, playing racquetball, reading, relaxing on the lake, and visiting with friends.
Please email or call me with concerns that you have about issues relating to Unit 178. We need your help to make the unit the best it can be.
