A few former Minnesotans have competed in the prestigious Cavendish invitational - and have done quite well. Do the names Howard Weinstein, Steve Garner and Joe Grue happen to ring a bell with anyone?
This year, however, even if you do not get invited to the Big Kahuna event, you can rub shoulders with the elite of the world and compete yourself! Check out the Cavendish website. Learn about open events at one of the most thrilling bridge competitions on the planet.
If you can't make it to Las Vegas that week, you can still participate in the action! See how to get rich without making one wrong bid!
Finally, if you're looking for excitement from the privacy of your own home, you can follow the action at Bridge Base Online.
The world of big bridge is right at your fingertips!
I wish to remind everyone to start planning for the Grand National Team District finals to be held in Fort Dodge Iowa on April 28-29. You need to have qualified at the local level in games held since October, but you need not play at the district finals with the teammates with which you qualified.
Looking for teammates to play with at the District finals? One great use of our blog is you can post that you're looking for teammates. Just make sure you put in your flight, perhaps points held by each of you and contact information. Not comfortable posting yet? You can email me your information and I'll try and serve as a coordinator to match teammates. My email address is below.
The flights for the GNT are as follows:
Open: unlimited
Flight A under 5,000 MPs
Flight B under 2,000 MPs
Flight C non-life master
under 500 MPs
MPs are as of August 6, 2006, so you can currently be over these limits but still qualify for a lower flight. Also physical residence is determined as of Septmember 1, 2006, so someone in District 14 could have qualified in a warmer climate but still play in our district.
