As many of you are aware, for a number of years, I edited the MN Bridge News. Eventually, however, with the advent of the Internet explosion and blogging, our MN boards judged that moving to this format instead of print was wise.
Personally, I believe it's been a tremendous plus for our bridge community. Costs for the blog are dramatically less than print. Immediacy is amazingly greater. Now, instead of having to wait three to four months to alert the bridge community to upcoming tournaments, results, news stories, photographs, accomplishments, fun hands and so much more - we are able to do it all several times each day! Additionally, on those exceptionally rare times when Your Editor makes an error (ahem) - corrections can be posted within hours - instead of having to live with it for months.
Nevertheless, despite all these positives, I do think that we can do even more with our blog. Allow me to list some additional possibilities.
- More contributions (stories, articles, news coverage) of our newcomer and intermediate players, in addition to local experts.
- Comments! You may not be aware - but any reader can add their own opinions and comments at the end of each blog post.
- Interactive communication is possible - send me questions you would like to ask of the bridge community (making dates for tournaments, "want ads" and the like) and I will post it for you.
- Links to sites that may be of interest to MN bridge players - please send them and I'll put 'em up!
- You're not online?!? Consider learning how to get connected - or - request that your local club manager print up blog entries and post them at the club.
You may have your own ideas of ways to improve our MN Bridge Blog, too. If so - send what you are thinking to me at [email protected]. I would be delighted to review and share!
We are fortunate to have hard working board members for Units 103 and 178 - along with many volunteers, club owners and directors, plus loads of people who adore and play our fascinating game. Let's all pull together to develop what is already pretty special into something even superior! I am listening....
I really enjoy this site. Good articles, easy access to tournament information, photos of everyone playing.
The only thing missing from the site is ... the one hand John Koch didn't get right :) just kidding keep 'em coming.
