What are "Grand National Teams?" It is an event that is "grass roots." Teams of 4-6 players compete and qualify on a local level. Then, they move to a District wide level of competition. The teams that win then receive a subsidized trip to the NABC tournament to compete against teams from all over North America! Four flights are available, so our district will send four teams to Washington DC this July for the exciting final.
This year, our District finals are special for a few reasons. First, for Minnesotans, we will not have to travel as far as usual to participate. The event will be held in the northern Twin City suburb of New Brighton. Secondly, for those who prefer sectional competition instead of GNT, you can play in the Swiss Team format.
Your Editor has trekked to the middle of Iowa for years to compete in the GNT's. It really is a thrilling event - with the special bonus of perhaps receiving funds to compete at the national level! This year, reaching that goal is right in the back yard of many Minnesota players.
Mike Cassel is the Unit 178 coordinator for Grand National Teams. Mike has provided us with a wealth of information about the event and the tournament the first weekend in March. Please read through what Mike has to say - and note that we also have conditions of contest and a flyer attached, too.
I shall be there; I hope your team is also ready to play!
