In addition to a wide array of events, treats, lots of friends and masterpoints - the Gopher Regional offers something else special: expert speakers. These talks provide a great opportunity for our newer players to learn more about the game, even as they compete.
Our first Gopher volunteer was Partnership Chair Sue Jackson. Here is the "other" Jackson - someone near and dear to Sue's heart and a key contributor to our upcoming regional!
Stephen Jackson: Speakers
Stephen is in charge of arranging speakers for intermediate/novice players during the Gopher Regional. Stephen is happy to report that when he asked five people to be speakers, all five readily agreed.
Stephen began playing duplicate in 1965 during his college days in Moorhead. He then moved to the Twin Cities, where he recalls the old bridge studio on 34th and Nicollet. Stephen met his wife, Sue, at the current Twin City Bridge Center at 60th and Nicollet - but this husband and wife duo play as a partnership only occasionally. Stephen's favorite part of the game is the challenge of a good defense.
