Mike Cassel's diligent efforts to build Grand National Teams continues to pay dividends. Mike reports that yesterday in St. Paul 19 teams entered the Unit 103 and 178 finals, both for potential cash and masterpoints! Congratulations to those teams who won. Remember that in May, everyone will have an opportunity to win a subsidized trip to the national GNT in New Orleans in July.

Up to 76 players will not have to pay the $11 surcharge in May. That's worth $836
The event paid out about 157 masterpoints across the four flights: 80 in the top 2 brackets, 57 in Flight B, and about 20 in Flight C, that otherwise wouldn't have happened.
The 16 winners will have their entry fees paid for at the district finals. If all these winners reach the KO or round robin finals the Balderson team will each save $32 in entry fees (as they will be adding Bill Kent and Peg Kaplan in their attempt to repeat as champions), and the other 12 winners $48 each, a nice tangible reward for good play and having a Unit final.
The event earned $228 toward the eventual district final winners for the $6/table/session Unit Final table fees. That's an extra $57 for each District final winning team.
I also believe that by holding the event we will build more momentum for future GNT activities.
Big thanks to Mike for organizing this! It was a fun day of bridge. I'm looking forward to May!
