All of us have the bones of system. Yet, as the saying goes, the devil is in the details.
Today, Steve Gaynor offers an example hand. In that context, Steve discusses how to judge what meat should go on our system's bones.
Thank you, Steve - and look forward to seeing everyone this weekend at the Winter Carnival!
Your writeup of this powerhouse reminded me of one from the Boston NABC in 2008: http://moot.typepad.com/minnesota_bridge/2008/12/big-and-beautiful.html#more
Playing in the Winter Carnival sectional with a new partner on Sunday I picked up
S Qxx H AKQxxx D AKxx C -- and heard LHO open (none vulnerable) 1C then pass pass to me.
How many players have discussed the varying balancing calls available for strong hands in the passout seat?
Mike Lawrence, in his book on balancing, suggests that the cue bid is not Michaels, but your strongest action. You'd really hate to have partner pass your double when you are close to having a slam: spade honor, D Q and a few hearts.
Always good to have agreements for handling strong hands in competition.
