Minnesota's big event of the year is almost upon us; the Gopher Regional. Next Tuesday, the premier event, the Jim Hall Knock-Outs, along with an I/N game and a side game begin at 7PM.
If you have not already secured your partners and teammates for the tournament, be sure to do so! Great competition, fun hospitality and all our bridge friends. This is an event you do not wish to miss!
I'm bummed as usual that Minnesota's one and only regional tournament is on the first weekend of summer (and a holiday weekend to boot!). Why can't we move this tournament to the middle of March when it's not 70 and sunny outside and there aren't lots of other things going on?!?!

Nick - your suggested date wouldn't work. Generally the Spring NABC is held then. But - mid autumn? Early April? I've been trying for years to get off of the Memorial Day weekend... but to no avail. I guess we are just outnumbered with our opinion.

The vote to move off of Memorial Day weekend is virtually unanimous, until you check out the rent for a decent playing site. What we pay for the entire week at the current site would only get one day in those other prime seasons that you mention. Of course, the tournament committee welcomes help from ANYONE who thinks they may have a pipeline to a decent venue at an affordable price.
On a promising note, in 2012 the Regional is now scheduled for Monday through Sunday, leaving Memorial Day open.
