Sue Jackson, fine player, teacher, bridge administrator and volunteer (among other activities!) offered the wise idea of a bridge column for our intermediate and novice players. So, now on Saturdays*, we will feature "Insight for I/N". Advice, hands and other useful information for our newer players can be found here.
Sue has written a number of good columns already for this feature. Nevertheless, MN Bridge always welcomes submissions from throughout our bridge world! Just send to our me, our webmaster, at [email protected].
Here is our first entry from Sue. Enjoy!
*Yes, I know it is Sunday but I am at the NABC in Las Vegas and could not get to the column yesterday! :)
One should add that in order to make a NMF bid responder needs invitational values or better. Always discuss all follow-up bids before adopting a new system.
I remember back in the day when just learning and my partner and I bid NMF without invitational values and got a lucky top. The person we "fixed" was none other than our Blogmaster. I'm sure she doesn't remember but she took it in good stride with just a raised eyebrow and a "don't you play you need invitational values?" comment. I learned a valuable lesson about not adopting new conventions unless thoroughly understand their purposes and all subsequent bids.
