Minnesota is most proud of our Silver Medal winner:  Ben Kristensen. As most of us know, Ben and his teammates earned a silver medal at the World Youth Team Championships this summer in Istanbul.

Not only is Ben achieving at such a high level in bridge - he is also doing a great job of promoting our game! This week, Ben and some of his mentors, Dianne Carr and Lee Steinmeir, also of Duluth, were highlighted in a Duluth News story about Ben and his bridge career. Of course, one of Ben's biggest cheerleaders, his dad Curt, was also featured.

Our state has a rich history of most talented young bridge players, including Howard Weinstein, Steve Garner, Joe Grue and others.

We look forward to following Ben's bridge career - which assuredly is already off to a roaring start!

Kick-off Halloween and the weekend with another fine Minnesota tournament offering!

Starting tomorrow, the 31st, through Sunday, the Minnesota State Sectional will be held in Shakopee at America's Best Value Suite and Inn. Enjoy an excellent array of events, free coffee in the morning, plus a free dinner Saturday.

Autumn Harvest Results

 

Though we are still enjoying magnificent fall colors in Minnesota, the Autumn Harvest is now successful history!

Here are the results from this weekend's seasonal tournament. 

Congratulations to Terry Beckman. His 22.82 masterpoints put him on the top of the masterpoints earned heap.

Other competitors earning over 10 masterpoints for the tournament are:

Autumn Harvest Sectional

A stunning display of colors - a marvelous selection of sectional events!

This weekend, October 17-19 is the Autumn Harvest Sectional. Held at the Maplewood Community Center, you can enjoy pair/team games, stratified pairs and Swiss events.

In addition, free coffee in the morning, free pizza Saturday between the morning and afternoon sessions - and lunch for the Sunday Swiss.

The Taming of the Club

Big club systems are not the method of choice for a majority of Minnesota players. Nevertheless, some of our pairs use big club to good advantage. 

Whether you do or do not use such a system, however, having some understanding of how the big club works can serve you well.

John Koch, writer extraordinaire and fine competitor, is also most familiar with these systems.

Today, John demonstrates how knowledge of the system can sometimes help you to see your way home in a tough contract. Read John's column and tame the big club!

Separate playing site for I/N players on Friday and Saturday.   The tournament will use Fast Results so you can check pair game results on your phone right after the game.

GNT club games are ongoing into April 2015. Check with local clubs for games.

Once again, congratulations to Ben and his talented teammates. We suspect that we shall have more stories of Ben's exploits in the future!
