For our members who like to keep up to date on what their Board of Directors are busy discussing and doing - the April 2015 Board minutes are posted below!

Unit 103 Board of Directors and Contributors

Unit 103's Board and list of contributors has had some changes. A new and current list is below.

Many thanks to departing board members Gus Doty and Barb Wijdicks for their many contributions to bridge in Unit 103 and Minnesota!

Welcome to new Board members Rajiv Kapadia and Sue Greenberg, and to Elaine Mulcahy, new Executive Secretary!

The Gopher Has EVERYTHING!

YOU CAN ONLY PLAY ONE SESSION A DAY

In the daytime, single session side games are available Tuesday through Saturday morning and afternoon.

A pair of two session regional Swiss team championship events will be held Wednesday/Thursday and Friday/Saturday in the mornings. 

Evening games include the popular single session Swiss team events.   

Remembering Ruth Bennett

Minnesota's bridge community has lost one of its most capable - and classiest - members:  Ruth Bennett. In remarkably fine condition at age 94, Ruth experienced difficulties only in the last few weeks of her life. April 17th, Ruth passed away. 

Despite being one of our older competitors, Ruth had a fine sense of the game. Outplaying opponents who were a fraction of her age was not an unusual occurrence. 

Yet, Ruth's bridge abilities were only part of what made her such a special woman. Those who knew her appreciated that, in many ways, Ruth was a gem of our bridge world.

One of Ruth's closest friends, frequent partner and teammate, Peg Mitchell, kindly has written some thoughts about Ruth. You can read Peg's wonderful remembrance below.

STILL WORKING DURING THE DAY?

Two session stratified pair games are being run in the evenings. Game time is 7:15 pm. 

Play Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday/Friday to collect gold points for section tops and to place in the overalls. 

You can only play one night?  NO PROBLEM! 

These games are open to single session entrants.

Hiawatha Sectional - Results

Beautiful weather, fine hospitality, a good turnout and a pleasant venue all made for an excellent spring sectional in Rochester!

Jackie Evans of Rochester, along with Jacob Morgan of Madison were top dogs in the masterpoint hunt. The partnership scored just over 32 masterpoints for the weekend. The full list can be seen here.

Our thanks to Barbara Wijdicks and John Ryder, tournament chairs, Ann Van Ryn, partnerships, our Director in Charge, Mike Flader - plus all the other individuals working and volunteering to create a great bridge experience at the sectional.  

As most of you know, Grand National Teams was also held concurrently in Rochester Saturday and Sunday. We will post about that at District 14 Bridge, and cross-post here when those results are up!

Play in championship regional pair and team games and still be home for dinner!

Two session Stratified & Gold Rush pair games are scheduled Tuesday through Saturday.  

Two session stratified Swiss team games are run across mornings, Wednesday/Thursday and Friday/Saturday. 

Plus, enjoy side game series every Tuesday through Saturday morning & afternoon!

 

Hiawatha Sectional - GNT District Finals

A big weekend April 10-12th in Rochester!

Great events for those wishing to compete in our spring sectional at the Rochester Event Center. Super competition for all District 14 teams looking to earn the right to represent their flight in the Grand National Teams this summer at the Chicago NABC.

Happy Birthday, Ed!

Ed Kiolbasa is 90!

Ed celebrated his birthday at the St. Paul Bridge Center on April 3rd. A beautiful cake plus a great game completed the festivities.

Celebrating with Ed was DD Lorenzen. DD shares the same birth date - a few years later than Ed!

Congratulations to Ed on his Big Birthday!
