And again - my saddest task as webmaster for Minnesota Bridge. Another fine bridge player, friend and good guy has passed away.
A newspaper obituary has not yet appeared. But when I does, I shall add it to these remembrances.
This message yesterday from Jim Stepness:
He died early this morning. It was peaceful and his family was with him. He was a good guy, good family man, good friend and good partner and bridge player. He loved golf as much as bridge. He was also a well-known and respected referee in high school and college sports. He will be missed.
Bill Voedisch had these succinct words to express:
I am just so sad to hear of his passing ... he had been fighting cancer for so long.
Thanks for letting us know, Jim. This was a surprise to me, as Paul was always optimistic about beating his cancer. He was a great guy and a good friend whom I first met when we were both freshman in the same dorm at St Thomas College. We were both learning the game. After those years I totally lost touch with him until I ran into him at an NAP event about 10 years ago. He had come back to the game after retiring—his profession was a lawyer - but he also was a high school and small college sports referee as Jim mentioned. He told me he hadn’t played in forty years but had kept up with the game by reading every Bridge World magazine in that time. He played a very sound, if somewhat conservative game.Minnesota has lost a another good bridge player, friend and good guy.******************************************************************************************Paul's obituary is now online at this link: http://www.ohalloranmurphy.com/obituary/paul-nesvigOur deepest condolences to Paul's family, all friends - and our bridge world.
