I've never lived in a warm climate. Call me odd, if you wish. But I like winter in Minnesota. (Ok, ok - the 6 days in a row of well below zero cold early February were a bit much. I'm talking "averages.")
Right now, it's about six degrees out. A brilliant sun dances on the snow and ice. The cold invigorates me. The brightness cheers me.
My folks live in southern Florida. Yes, it is nice to be able to walk around in the middle of February and not worry about losing body parts if a turtleneck, sweater, downfilled coat and snug leather gloves aren't part of your wardrobe.
Still, after a few days with Mom and Dad and nothing but sun-sun-sun and sweat on my brow, I welcome a return to the frozen tundra. I'm refreshed. My spirits are lifted. I feel alive.
