I never knew that issues such as civil rights or health care was a democratic or republican issue. I have always considered them issues that I felt were important, regardless of politics.

I think it's a matter of public perception, LC. Of course civil rights and health care are important - period - just as defense and business and the economy are important.

Still, many (erroneously, in my opinion) believe that the former issues "belong" to the Democrat party and the latter "belong" to Republicans.

Could go on quite a long time about this...but suffice to say that it's too bad we cannot seem to understand the principles each party espouses and realize that BOTH parties care about ALL these issues. They only believe that they ought to be handled in disparate ways.
