And bring the government into health care further. I am in sympathy with the desire, but leery of the means to accomplish it. Any governmental mandate has the high risk of unintended consequences.

Bill, between Medicare and Medicaid, drug benefits, and "no one turned away from an ER room" - I'm afraid that the government is already in quite deep.

Our society seems determined to not turn away anyone who needs care. But, giving it to people in the ER room is a most inefficient and terribly expensive method of delivery.

Given the underlying premise (the ill not rejected) - it seems as if it would make sense to find another way of providing it that isn't as wasteful.

Still - your point is sensible and well taken (as always!)
