My opinion is that the Washington Post is the highest quality, general interest paper in the nation today. Of course, in saying that, one should not infer I think the Wa Po can do no wrong. Au contraire ... just that they do a better job than the rest.
That being said, it particularly pains me to read this. For those who are unfamiliar with fashionista Robin Givhan, she's the same reporter who castigated Dick Cheney when he wore a bulky, warm coat to the 60th anniversary of Auschwitz rather than an attractive, dapper dress coat. Never mind that the man suffers from heart disease, and the temperatures were frigid.
In this new article, Ms. Givhans goes on ... and on and on and on about Abramoff's attire as he left a courtroom. Now, I will be the first to admit that Abramoff did look sinister, and might have been well advised to select another chapeau and coat. Still. Do we need paragraph after paragraph on a thought of minute importance? Shameful as Abramoff's alleged activities have been, does Givhan really need to mock Orthodox Judaism indirectly?
I'll try not to commit the same error - and give this schlocky column more attention than it deserves. Let me only add that it pains me to see something like this in an otherwise usually quality newspaper.
